US Marine Force Visits GAF

A six- member delegation led by the Commander, United States Marine Forces Europe and Africa, Major General Russell A Sanborn has paid a working visit to the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa at Burma Camp on Monday, 19 March 2018.
The visit was to deepen the bilateral ties that existed between both Forces as well as discuss common interests and future training opportunities.
CDS on the other hand was grateful for the General’s visit as well as the immense support GAF enjoyed from the US Force. He therefore presented Maj Gen Sanborn with a plaque.
Maj Gen Sanborn in turn presented CDS with a commemorative inscription for the warm reception accorded him and his team.
The delegation later paid a visit to the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo at the Naval Headquarters to get first-hand knowledge on maritime security issues in Ghana and the Commander Air Force Base, Accra, Group Captain Frederick Kwesi Bekoe who toured them round the American Hanger.
CNS in his brief stated that although the Ghana Navy faced several challenges such as language barrier with neighbouring countries, human trafficking, piracy among others, he was quick to add that the Navy was able to achieve much with the available resources as well as the help of the United States (US) government.
Rear Admiral Faidoo beseeched the delegation to help train coast guards as well as provide the necessary equipment for the Navy Special Force to guard the maritime borders of the country.
The delegation which was taken to the Maritime Operation Centre (MOC) was exposed to the Maritime Domain Awareness Tools in the various Commands; most of which were donated by the US. In all, the Ghana Navy has four (4) MOCs.
They also paid a visit to students who were currently participating in Ex-Obangame.
